A number of years ago, a former Pastor encouraged us to bow or genuflect to the Chalice of the Blood of Christ, if we chose not to receive it during communion. I don’t see it practiced much (outside of Sacred Heart where a number of parishioners still do). Is this part of Church teaching, or simply a recommendation? What say you?
I agree with the “former pastor”. We believe that Christ is substantially and fully present (body, blood, soul and divinity) in each of the Eucharistic species. Therefore, even if you only receive under one kind it is entirely appropriate to show a sign of reverence for the other as you pass by.
